BOULDER BONDAGE
Boulder bondage (2022) brings out the boulder lying between Kulttuuripolku and the main building of Saari Manor using rope bondage, i.e. tying. Elie Halonen worked at Saari Residency 2022. The boulder emerges from its environment as if detached from it, reminding how the overwhelming forces of the ice age have transported it far from the parent rock. Elie Halonen has examined the body of the stone by touch and mapped the dimensions of the boulder with rope. The lines of the rope follow the features of the hairy stone body, reminding of the activity of matter that is seemingly passive and frozen in time, and playing with the power and interaction relations between human and ahuman.
ACTS OF EMPATHY- practise

Acts of Empathy is a performance project and practice of shibari and visual artist Elie Halonen and dance and circus artist Satu Hakamäki. We work in a workshop-like manner, studying the combination of dance movement, shibari binding and visual arts, as well as power relations and interaction in this context. In practice, the sculptor captures the dancer's movement by binding shapes. The sculptor works both by sketching and ending up with detailed work. During the sketching phase, the shapes remain only for a moment and the material continues its movement, suggesting new sketch shapes. When ending up with a detailed sculpture, the dancer's movement becomes smaller and smaller, until finally micro-movements, such as the rate and depth of breathing, the expression of the face and the stretching of individual fingers, are no longer noticeable. Our goal is a long-term practice, based on which it is possible to create performance outputs suitable for various spaces and events. We performed a version stemming of this practise at Kehä festival 2022 called Flesh Sketches and also merged as part of larger artistic ecology in a performance: On a Former Island, that was performed at Sibelius Museum 2022.
MEMBERING

MEMBERING is a performance and installation that took place at Ilmiö festival 2022. The performance invites to feel what remains in the memory of a collective body, beyond individual understanding. The performers seek out radical embodiment in a ritual where connections emerge and are weaved with rope. The sound scape seeps into the echo chambers of the mind. Performers: Elie Halonen, Anni Elina, Anniina Auf Costumes in collaboration with Amita Kilumanga
THE WEIGHT OF EVERYTHING
Photos by Photos by Laura Lövgren 2019
The Weight of Everything is Elie Halonen's graduation work from Turku University of Applied Scienses displayed at Nytt-exhibition 2019. The work consists of a performance and installation. We become aware of gravity, the constant physical and mental holding that occurs every waking moment and practise surrendering it. The suspended human body is in affect with a rotating heavy sculpture that has planetary and cocoon like features. Performers: Elie Halonen and Aamu Kirjonen, sculpture: Elie Halonen, sound design: Aamu Kirjonen
NIELU – Food and art festival
Solo version of the performance Weight of Everything was performed at Nielu Food and Art -festival that took place at Nuuksio national park 2019.
